flat red

This project involves the addition of a new canopy structure and play space to an existing McDonalds. The store is located on a steep hill with cars approaching from below the building along the main road. The design intervention takes the opportunity inherent in this topography to turn the ceiling of the canopy into an architectural signboard for the building. Articulated as a faceted and undulating surface, it is painted red – the iconographic backdrop for the golden arches – to create an alternative and revitalised sign for what was an aging building.
